6 more Packages from the MDA Team

We are pleased to announce the release of 6 new packages as well as an update to the CSV sample project.

The Import/Export package (see package in action)

The Import/Export Package provides an easy way to Import and Export data in and out of a live Morfik application database. A live demo is available here.

The Image Rotator package (see package in action)

The Image Rotator Package provides you with an image gallery widget. (Figure 1). A live demo is available here.

The Fisheye Menu package (see package in action)

The Fisheye Menu Package allows you to add expanding menus, in a similar manner to Mac OS X Dock, to your Morfik-built websites. When the user moves the mouse over Fisheye Menu items, they increase in size and show the text description. When the mouse is moved away, the menu item returns to its original state and the description text is hidden (Figure 2). A live demo is available here.

The Ararat Synapse package (see package in action)

The Ararat Synapse Package provides an interface to the complete library of classes and functions for network communication application programming. Ararat Synapse library aims to create a complete library of classes and functions that would markedly simplify application programming of network communication using Winsock. With Ararat Synapse Package you can implement all the functionality of this library in your Morfik projects. A live demo is available here.

The TinyMCE package (see package in action)

The TinyMCE Package provides a WYSIWYG editor to be used in Morfik-built websites. The WYSIWYG editor implements a user-friendly interface that allows the user to create and edit a document in a view that closely resembles what the end result will look like. A live demo is available here.

The Postal Code Lookup package (see package in action)

The Postal Code Lookup Package provides the interface to the Web Service that can be used to retrieve geographical location information for a given postal code in many countries. It can also be used to validate postal code. A live demo is available here.

CSV sample project (see Morfik CSV in action)

We have also updated the CSV sample project. Now it demonstrates how the data can be downloaded in a .csv file that can be opened in Excel. A live demo is available here.

Estos paquetes estan en el software estandar de Morfik o requieren la subscripcion adicional?

These packages are in the standard software Morfik or require additional subscription?

@Adam Brett:
Adam,

While I appreciate the point you have made about data-binding and the idealism of Morfik “ideology”, I must say “cherry picking” is an unkind description of the hard work that goes into the integration and production of these packages. The MDA team is committed to the long term maintenance of these packages and while they might miss the mark with some of these packages in their first release I am confident that they will get them right in subsequent releases.

Adam Brett says:

I am using the TinyMCE component. It is great, but I cannot set a DataField, it has no datafield property.

While the component is great this lack means that the way the component works falls outside Morfiks overriding “ideology” of seamless integration of data and content.

As a simple example it means I cannot use the component even on a single-record data-bound form, link the content to the underlying datafield and let Morfiks Navigator manage all the data update etc., processes.

For any form using the TinyMCE component I have to write in special code to pass the content in & out on every data refresh.

The packages are good, but there has been a little too much “cherry picking” of good open source components which are on the web (i.e. TinyMCE) and wrapping them for Morfik … not quite enough thought about how to make them really work.

What’s a great packages!

Only one thing that make my wish complete is Unicode Support for PDF report. As far as I know, it’ll be good for MF3 ?

@Aquiles Rodriguez:
Hello Aquiles,

Thank you for the suggestion. We will implement this in the update of the Import/Export package and CSV sample project.

@John Atchison:
Hello John,

We are going to update the download section to include projects used for live demonstration of our packages. I will let you know as soon as it happens.
