We are getting close to releasing an update to Morfik 3, and today I'd like to share with you some exciting news about the work that has been done on improving the performance of websites created with Morfik. For this update we have focused on the server-side performance, here is a list of improvements that will be included in 3.0.2

Morfik 3.0 Beta Release

Dear Morfik Developers,

On behalf of the entire Morfik development team, I am very happy to share with you the exciting news that the Morfik 3 beta is now available. We are particularly excited as we have managed this ahead of the opening game of the Soccer World Cup. Now we can watch the games without feeling guilty!

For those of you who have been waiting for Morfik 3 and would like to get straight into the game, I will share a few thoughts that might help you get off to a good start and, at the same time, prepare you for some rough play that you might experience in the early stages of the beta period.

Morfik 3’s game plan is based on the same basic strategy as Morfik 2—to give you features that help you keep up with the requirements of modern web applications without making the process too complicated.

Introducing the Morfik Rewards Program

We are pleased to announce the Morfik Rewards Program, designed to harness and maximize the use of available resources within the community and foster a cooperative support culture among Morfik users by directly rewarding those who voluntarily share their valuable time and experience with their fellow developers.

All peer support activities within the Morfik community attract reward points that can be exchanged for a range of products, services, merchandise and priority support, or used for sponsoring the development of product features and Morfik packages of choice. In addition to Morfik reward points, active participants in peer support will receive reputation badges according to criteria designed to reflect the quality of their contribution, level of expertise and knowledge of Morfik products.

Morfik opens its discussion forums to the general public

With the upcoming release of Morfik 3.0, the updated documentation and the emergence of an enthusiastic core of experienced developers who are willing and able to provide peer support, we feel the time is right to open our forums to prospective Morfik developers as they download the trial version and investigate the suitability of the Morfik platform for their specific needs.

We believe the key factor in the long-term success of Morfik as an application development tool for use by professional developers is the quality of our support. A runaway support load, however, can easily overwhelm us and reduce the quality of the support below what we regard as acceptable.

Morfik 3 Update: New animation and transition effects for controls

Morfik 3 further enhances the presentation capabilities of user interface controls with new animation and transition effects. The rich user interface controls built into Morfik IDE are among the most graphically striking elements available in development tools today. Morfik 3 narrows the gap between the skill set of application developers and graphic artists and the results are serious web business applications with stunning visual appeal developed in record time.

One of the biggest surprises of Morfik 3 is going to be delivered through a package! While the Morfik development team is still unsure about its inclusion in the first beta, they are confident that this package will be ready in time for the final release.

For a wide range of developers, native database connectivity (for databases other than Firebird) has been an important missing feature in Morfik. The Morfik development team spent a lot of time examining various methods for incorporating this feature into the product. They have come up with a powerful way to bring you native database connectivity using the package architecture.

Let me start by saying how pleasantly surprised I was yesterday when I looked at the latest build of Morfik 3.

While going through the standard routine of creating a new project, Morfik IDE presented me with some ready-made web page templates ("pages as first class objects" are key new design entities in Morfik 3 and you will hear a lot more about them), but what really caught my attention was the fact that it included specially designed template pages for iPhone!

DNS and Morfik Deployment Automation Services (DAS)

Personally I feel most people using the internet don’t notice or appreciate the wonderful work of DNS (Domain Name System) servers. There is no reason really for them to think about it; they type an address on the browser and the website appears. Like a phone number, you dial the right number and the right person answers. That is fine until you offer an online service on the internet, you have your own domain name and somehow you need to use a DNS service. Since most Morfik users will be using Morfik DAS, sooner or later it will be essential to know a few things about DNS and how it relates to Morfik DAS.

Morfik iPad Party

After waiting for what felt like an eternity my new iPad was hand-delivered to my home yesterday, three weeks ahead of its scheduled release in Australia. It did not take me long to get up and running. Loading content through iTunes went smoothly and I was soon playing with the familiar iPhone content on this new device.

Of course, the first thing I wanted to do was check out how Morfik apps ran in the iPad. But more importantly, I wanted to find out for myself whether this new device would live up to the hype and could really change the way we experience the web. Naturally here at Morfik things like that are very important to us. The last time I was this excited was when IE5 was released. IE5 was the first browser that made it possible to think of the web as a software platform. It has been a long time since anything as significant that has happened in the world of browsers. Of course there have been a lot of major improvements over the years but no game changers. So, I was really keen to experience it first-hand.
